Do you know what is Digital Signature Certificate ?

 

​Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) are the digital equivalent (that is electronic format) of physical or paper certificates. Few Examples of physical certificates are drivers' licenses, passports or membership cards. Certificates serve as proof of identity of an individual for a certain purpose; for example, a driver's license identifies someone who can legally drive in a particular country. Likewise, a digital certificate can be presented electronically to prove one’s identity, to access information or services on the Internet or to sign certain documents digitally.

When do you need to get DSC ? and which type of DSC you require ?

 

The type of applicant and the purpose for which the Digital Signature Certificate is obtained defines the kind of DSC one must apply for depending on the need. There are three types of Digital Signature certificates issued by the certifying authorities.

  • Class 1 Certificates: These are issued to individual/private subscribers and are used to confirm that the user’s name and email contact details from the clearly defined subject lie within the database of the certifying authority.

  • Class 2 Certificates: These are issued to the director/signatory authorities of the companies for the purpose of e-filing with the Registrar of Companies (ROC). Class 2 certificate is mandatory for individuals who have to sign manual documents while filing of returns with the ROC.

  • Class 3 Certificates: These certificates are used in online participation/bidding in e-auctions and online tenders anywhere in India. The vendors who wish to participate in the online tenders must have a Class 3 digital signature certificate.

  • To file Income Tax Returns

  • To File GST Returns

  • To file TDS/TCS Returns

  • To submit various electronic from with Income tax Dept.

  • To file ROC  e forms

  • To submit Tenders etc.,

Is it Mandatory to use DSC ?

 

​Yes, It is now mandatory to use DSC for the above purposes, there are some exceptions to Individuals and partnerships firms to use DSC while filing Income Tax Returns (Non Tax Audit), GST Retursn, TDS Returns etc.,

For your Information

 

While submitting the digital signature application form, please follow the general instructions listed below:

  • Signature of the applicant should be in Blue Ink only

  • Signature of the applicant should be as it is in Identity Proof

  • Photo of the applicant in application form should be signed across by the applicant

  • All supporting documents should be attested by either of Gazetted Officer / Bank Manager / Post Master

  • For proof of attesting officer, either one of the below is mandatory –

  • Contact Details of Attesting Officer including the name, designation, office address and contact number. This should be as part of attestation. If provided separately, it should be attested either by the Applicant or Attesting Officer; or

  • Self Attested copy of Organisational Identity card of Attesting Officer

  • Organizational Documents can also be attested by Authorized Signatory. However, if the taxpayer fails to get the Organizational Documents attested by the authorized signatory, in such cases an attested copy of the organisational ID Card of the authorized signatory is mandatory.

How can you apply for DSC ?

 

Paperless: which is based on Aadhar Authentication or PAN Card based.

In this case you need to link mobile number with aadhar if it is not linked earlier, and have to authenticate by providing Aadhar OTPs which will receive to you mobile number linked to aadhar.

If your mobile number was not linked to aadhar, you can apply with PAN based, and then you have to submit the documents online.

 

Paper Based: Submitting application with proper form along with required documents.

Need to submit Physical application, sign the application and submit the same along with supporting documents.

In any method you must do Video verification process, where you have to answer you name, Date of birth and confirmation about the application you have submitted.

When will your DSC Ready?

 

Normally you will get DSC with 1 day, if we apply for paper less mode; otherwise it will take 2-3 working days.
